Bio — Through her artwork Savina Hopkins explores the interface between damage and preservation and the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. She enjoys working in a space where humour and history rub shoulders, where nostalgia and discomfort mingle. Her art encompasses collage, assemblage, painting and photography. Across these fields, she is attracted to working with salvaged materials and objects imbued with specific histories and uses. Contemplation and manipulation of these materials, and the ideas and stories that are embedded in them, drive her creative practice. Since the early 2000s, Savina has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including her solo exhibitions, i-Spy at Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library (2024) and Screen / Timeat Carlton Library (2022) in Naarm / Melbourne. She founded Retractable Art Space in 2024, has been a finalist in the Nillumbik Prize (2017) and an artist in residence at St Vincent’s Hospital, Naarm / Melbourne (2014). Her work is held in public and private collections across Victoria and abroad. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) with First Class Honours from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne (1993). Savina also holds a Post Graduate Diploma (Scientific Illustration) from the University of Newcastle (1997). She lives and works in Naarm /Melbourne.
