Tiana Khasi - Textile series (limited edition)

Tiana Khasi - Textile series (limited edition)
This beautiful limited edition textile/tea towel series was created by future soul artist Tiana Khasi as part of her residency, Inciting Joy, at correspondences in Bulleke-bek (Brunswick) from 2 March to 31 May 2025.
The textiles have been designed to be used, framed, and treasured as you see fit. There are four designs that are grounded in and honour Tiana’s Samoan and Indian cultural heritage.
—1) MEGHALAYA - featuring lyrics from the title song of Tiana’s album of the same name [Meghalaya], this design is a tribute to Meghalaya, the ancestral lands of the Khasi people, one of Tiana’s Motherlands.
—2) SIAPO - inspired by the siapo (bark cloth) designs of Samoa, this printed pattern pays tribute to Tiana’s Samoan heritage.
—3) ELDERS NOT IDOLS - features these words with images of the hibiscus flower, a beloved flower in Samoan culture and an important symbol of the enduring role of women in keeping culture strong. As Tiana writes: “Honouring Elders above idols - restoring dignity to ancestral wisdom”, this design offers tribute to “Elders across the globe”.
—4) IN CASE OF EMERGENCY - inspired by the Red Cross sign, where the pattern from the siapo design replaces the cross. This one is for kitchen emergencies and “joining faikakala!”, as part of the printed text reads. Tiana elaborates: “In tribute to the humble tea towel, a universal aid and quiet first responder in kitchens and koga’i (special gatherings)”.
Each textile piece measures 50 × 65 cm and is printed locally on ACO-certified organic cotton.
They are $35 each. Please select your preferred artwork(s) via the drop-down.
In time, a catalogue featuring extra images and a conversation with Tiana about this collection and her residency will be released. To stay in the loop, we recommend joining our newsletter.
The series was designed and printed locally on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country.
